curls last longer malaysia pj damansara bangsar selangor

Why aren’t your curls holding? How to make the curls last longer?

As a makeup artist/hairstylist, a lot of the time we don’t have the luxury or a proper environment with proper tools to help our client wash their hair prior to styling it. Washing your hair right before styling is not ideal either as the hair might be too soft. Plus, for us makeup artists, most of us studied how to style your hair, but not how to wash, like a hair salon’s stylist.

If you have been our clients, you would know how long winded we could be when it comes to informing you how to prepare for your appointment =p You would have heard/read “Please get ready a clean bare face, without skin care. Hair dry non oily. Wash your hair without conditioner, leave in serum/oils” Some of you might wonder, ‘What? no conditioner/serum? My hair’s gonna be dry/frizzy!’ But guess what? Honestly, we prefer your hair to be a bit ‘damaged’ for better styling & hold LOL We are not kidding you about ‘damaged’ hair is better for styling!

This is especially true when it comes to curling your hair. Is your hair not able to hold the curls for a long period of time? It went flat right before you leave your house after your makeover? Check out this informational video on why your curls are not holding and tips on how to make it last longer.

Enjoy!

Bridal Makeover – Yee En

Last year December, we have had the chance to do a bridal makeup & hairdo for the lovely Yee En. She is the sister of our bride, Estee, whom we did the wedding makeover as well few years back. It was like a mini reunion for us, seeing familiar faces during the makeover. With Estee’s two sons happily running around while we putting on final touches for the mother, it just reminded us how time just flew by so fast!

With Yee En’s long and thick hair, we did an updo with braids and twists. Adorned with red flower and gold hair accessory matching her oriental wedding outfit, the Chinese Kwa. Simple yet elegant. Evergreen look. For the dinner reception, we did a half up hairstyle with some curls at the bottom. Makeup for both morning and dinner were kept simple and natural looking as per Yee En’s request 🙂

How to help makeup last longer. No more Makeup Meltdown

4 Golden Rules for a Longer Lasting Makeup

Whenever we doll up our clients, a lot of them, well, actually all of them made this 1 same move that would put our beautifully done makeup in jeopardy. Which is RUBBING, SCRATCHING THEIR NOSE or anywhere on their face. Every time we sees this we would gasp and scream in our heart “Noooooo……!!!!” Then, we would proceed to touch-up the mess and inform them our golden rules to help pro-long the wear of their makeup. We almost sounded like a granny telling them that list of golden rules lol…

I bet a lot of you have read about what products to use for a smudge proof, heat proof, water proof makeup. So today, I’m gonna lay out the golden rules for a long lasting makeup.

1. Beautiful Makeup Starts with Beautiful Skin

Beautiful Makeup Beautiful Skin

I cannot agree more with the late Mr. Shu Uemura. Not only it emphasizes the importance of beautiful skin, it also made a point that makeup is really not a magical potion or instant plastic surgery. There is only so much makeup can do.

While you don’t have to have baby ass smooth skin for a beautiful makeup result. The most important thing is to keep your skin well hydrated and free of dead skin, or dirt build up. I always recommend my client to keep a basic routine of facial scrub & hydrating facial mask at least once a week, or the night before their makeover next day.

When old dead cells removed, new skin emerges, it gives a soft, smooth and healthy glow to your face instantly. Subsequent makeup product that goes on your face will look much better. Skeptical? I challenge you to not scrub your face for a week but continue to wear your makeup as usual and take a good look at it. Then compare it to when you apply makeup after a good scrub and see the difference 🙂

Another important thing is to always keep your face well hydrated. Hydration helps to plump up your skin and help fine lines to be less visible. It also helps to make your face less oily, thus overall helping your makeup to last longer. Sometime when you think your skin is oily skin, but maybe it is just being dehydrated and your body is over producing the oil to compensate for it.

Currently we are loving these 2 products for a well hydrated face, Bioderma Hydrabio Perfecteur with SPF 30 and Naruko’s Rose & Botanic HA Aqua Cubic Hydrating Mask .

2. Stay Cool

makeup meltdown

The first step to long lasting makeup is to stay cool. You should stay cool while you apply your makeup and after you are done.

When you apply your makeup in a hot, sweaty environment, the heat and sebum/oil from your face is starting to melt your makeup even before you have time to set/seal them. It doesn’t help too when your face is sweaty while you do your makeup. Sweaty face = slippery surface = makeup product won’t sit well on your face. Just imagine you are trying to write something on a slippery surface and you can’t, the ink just don’t stick on.

You should ideally have your makeup done in a well ventilated, cool room. Best is do it in an air-conditioned room. Once you have finish and sealed your makeup, you should try to avoid activities that would make you sweat and feels hot. Stay in-doors, air-conditioned environment if you could.

If you really don’t have the luxury of staying cool, the following steps should at least help you look fab throughout your day.

3. Get your fingers away from your face

Our fingers touches a lot of things throughout the day, and some germs or bacteria might get on. Having your fingers stays away from your face not only helps avoid break outs, but it also helps your beautifully doll up face to look fab for a longer period of time. But if you really need to touch your face because is itchy, we strongly recommend that you do not scratch your face.  Instead, lightly tap the itchy spot.

Although the makeup can withstand some light touches to it, but acts like scratching or wiping is too harsh. Your makeup will come off, especially your foundation. Unless you use some budge proof makeup primer prior to your foundation that helps it to withstand some light scratches or wiping, just like an eye primer does for eyeshadows.

So remember, TAP not scratch.

4. Don’t let it soak

oily makeup face. Remember to blot

A lot of times when we see ladies in beautiful makeup but super shiny oily face, we just felt like walking up to them and help blot their face. Getting your face beautifully doll up is only the beginning of looking fab throughout the day. How you maintain it determines your makeup’s longevity.

Sweats and sebums creates a slip that will cause your makeup to slide off your face. If that is not enough, letting your face soaked in sweat or sebum is like putting a cotton pad soak with makeup remover on your eyelids, softening/dissolving it.

If your face gets sweaty or oily, you should use tissue or blotting paper to lightly dab it off. Key is LIGHTLY DAB not wipe. Ideally, you should always check yourself out in the mirror every 2 hours or so to admire your beautiful makeup and of course to also see if your face has becomes oily 😛 For oily skin, keep a close watch whenever possible.

There you have it. No one says maintaining a beautiful face is easy. If you decides to put so much care & love into making up your face, why not take some precautionary steps to help it look good throughout the day too? We also recommend you try out Skindinavia’s Bridal Makeup Setting Spray for that extra boost of staying power. It really does hold up for 12 – 16 hours and it’s our must haves!

“There is no ugly women, only lazy ones”

So my lovelies, Stay Hydrated, Stay Cool, Tap and Dab your way to look Fab all day!

Bioderma Hydrabio Perfecteur Makeup Base Moisturiser Malaysia KL PJ Selangor

Bioderma Hydrabio – The Secret to Beautiful Skin

Bioderma recently launched their new products from the Hydrabio range, Hydrabio Perfecteur, Hydrabio Rich Moisturising Creme and Gel-Creme. We were invited to the launch event on 15th July 2016, at Pool Bar & Grill, Le Meridien Hotel, KL Sentral.

Our Founder, Veron’s favourites, dessert & coffee! Food were allowed into the meeting room =D

We were treated with some nice cocktail session before we were brought into the meeting room. Presenter explained the importance of a well hydrated skin and how Bioderma’s Hydrabio range could help you achieve that with their latest technology in skin care.

“Aquagenium Patent + Skin-Mimetic Technology helps the skin to generate deep hydration and instant radiance in a lasting way” ~ Bioderma Laboratoire Dermatologique

Bioderma Hydrabio Skincare Malaysia

To know more about the range and it’s technology, read more about it here and grab yourself some samples too!

We were given a set of Hydrabio’s products, Hydrabio H2O Moisturising Makeup Removing Micelle Solution, Toning Lotion, Serum, Gel Creme (light moisturising lotion), Creme (rich moisturising creme) and the all in one wonder product Hydrabio Perfecteur with SPF 30.

Now, how does these products fared? Let’s find out!

My skin condition: Slightly dehydrated, with very fine lines along my laugh lines, tiny pores around my cheeks, lack radiance

This product range is targeted for Dehydrated Sensitive Skin. Though my skin is not particularly sensitive, but I have normal combination skin with oily T-Zone. After using it for 2 weeks now, I’m very impressed with the products overall and I would recommend it if you are looking for products that works!

Bioderma Micellar Cleansing Water Hydrabio Skincare Makeup remover cleanser Malaysia

Bioderma Hydrabio Moisturising Makeup Removing Micelle Solution

When I tried using it to remove my mascara (Etude House Dr. Lash Fixer smudge & water proof mascara base + Maybelline’s mascara), it couldn’t remove it. I also tried removing my MAC gel liner to no avail (whether it was applied on top of UD’s eye primer or using it alone) It could not completely removed it after wiping my eyelid for many times with 2 or 3 cotton pads. As comparison, I could easily remove my MAC gel liner applied same way as mentioned with L’Oreal’s makeup remover easily in 1 or 2 wipes on a single cotton pad. However, removing my eyeshadows applied on top of UD’s primer was a success without much wiping.

Overral this is a great makeup remover if you only have powder, foundation, concealer or blusher and some light eye makeup. Meaning no heavy duty makeup if you wanna use this.

It is also great as a daily cleanser without having to use water to wash it off after. It’s moisturising and the fresh floral & ocean scent throughout this line is refreshing. Though it might be a bit strong for others.

Skincare that works Bioderma Malaysia

Bioderma Hydrabio Moisturising Toning Lotion

I’m not a toner person in general. However, Bioderma’s Hydrabio Tonique Lotion is very refreshing to use, and it does not contains alcohol of any kind to irritate the skin. Though it leaves a sticky feeling on its own after a while, but I think it does help the subsequent products to absorb better. I soak a cotton pad with the toner and apply all over my face. With the remaining amount left on the cotton pad, I will randomly leave it on my face, i.e. forehead, nose, the triangle areas below my eyes to let my skin further absorb its goodness  while I apply other products.

“The Aquagenium™  biological patent found in Hydrabio Tonique retrains the skin to activate its natural moisturising capacities by stimulating the production of aquaporins, water channels in the skin, and retain the water it needs to be balanced”

Bioderma Hydrabio Serum

I always thought serum is too rich for my skin and the ones I tried all felt heavy and oily. However, Hydrabio Serum’s texture is velvety smooth, in a gel like form. It is tailored for all skin types, can be used alone or combine with other product from the series. You can even used it alone under your makeup. I tried using it alone, and it made my face felt velvety smooth, fresh and light, non sticky or oily. It practically made me starts to like serum 🙂 I use the serum together with the Gel Creme on days when I felt like some splurging on my skin hehe…

Bioderma Hydrabio Gel-Creme

The texture of this Gel-Creme, is not too solid nor watery. Doesn’t felt oily or heavy. It just felt luxurious and fresh, After the 1st use, I noticed my skin looked radiant, with a healthy soft glow not shine like some moisturizer does to my face. My face looked healthy, plump, well hydrated! Another plus point is that, my face remains radiant few hours later and my skin does not turns into an oil slick lol… Though it felt a tiny weeny bit sticky, but it was acceptable for me.

This product is specially for dehydrated sensitive normal to combination skin which lack radiance. Hm…. I think it sounds like is for my kinda skin =D

“By eliminating dead cells, and progressively reducing cornea layer,  the skin’s upper layer, salicylic acid equalizes and smoothes the skin’s surface, which lastingly gains radiance”

Bioderma Hydrabio Creme

Hydrabio Creme comes in a jar together with a spatula. It is slightly more solid than the gel-creme, like a creamy spreadable butter 😛 It certainly does felt a little bit richer than the gel-creme. This creme is for dehydrated sensitive dry to very dry skin with lack of radiance. Out of all the products I got from the set, this creme is the one I use the less. I only use it at night, on days that I felt my skin need some intense hydration.

After applying it, my skin does felt ‘heavier’, like there’s a layer of something sitting on top. Probably it is because my skin is not meant for what this product is targeting. However, I have only used it for about 3 times now (maybe once or twice a week) and so far it has not caused my skin to break out. My face felt a lil bit oily the next morning and that rich moisturising effect lingers. I think this product could be very useful if you are in places that makes your skin feels dry or dehydrated, i.e. air-condition room, winter season.

Bioderma Skincare Hydrabio Perfecteur Makeup RCMA MAC Maqpro Foundation Malaysia

Bioderma Hydrabio Perfecteur SPF 30

This is the real gem of the Hydrabio series. Suitable for all skin types, Bioderma Hydrabio Perfecteur with SPF 30 is an all in one, wonder product. It is a moisturiser, skin smoother, skin brigthener, sun block and makeup base. Sounds too good to be true? In fact, it is. It works.

Upon 1st usage, I noticed my complexion brightens instantly and my face appears smoother. Thanks to its ingredients that includes soft-focus powders and pearls! Tiny pores and micro wrinkles/fine lines were instantly blurred. Its texture is very similar to the creme, it doesn’t spread as easily as the creme tho.

I have tested it with my usual foundation routine, i.e. MAC + RCMA foundation set with RCMA No Color Powder and MAC + MaqPro foundation set with RCMA No Color Powder. Both RCMA and MaqPro are wax based foundation, in my opinion which works better on my skin and our weather. I dislike how silicone base foundation would degrades/wears off and becomes patchy around my oily zone.

Bioderma Hydrabio Perfecteur SPF 30 works great as a skin prep prior to applying my foundation. Once I’m done, my face looks radiant, plump and smoother. Best is, it does help my foundation to last longer. My T-zone doesn’t becomes oily as fast as compared to when I’m using other skin care. At the end of the day, my skin still look hydrated, foundation & powder didn’t settled into fine lines along my laugh line 🙂

If you only have budget to get only 1 item from Bioderma, then Hydrabio Perfecteur SPF 30 is the MUST HAVE item! Finally a wonderful all in one product that works on many levels to help give you that long lasting hydration, radiance and smooth skin effect.

Verdict: Try it to believe it. It is a range of products that works and doesn’t cost you an arm and a leg.

Love,

Veron

Wedding Bridal Makeup Trial KL PJ Selangor

Behind the Scene of Bridal Trial

While it is important the makeup artist that you choose could be one that does a makeup style that you like or wish to have during your wedding, or has a good portfolio with good feedbacks/reviews. Having a trial session with your preferred artist prior to your wedding is as important.

Trial session is a time for you and your preferred artist to get to know each other & be comfortable. During the trial session, discuss your ideal bridal look with your artist, by showing them some sample photos to get your idea across. An experienced artist will be able to provide you advice or suggestion base on your samples, whether the certain look you love is suitable for you and/or the event. You should be open to suggestion as well and try something else if your preferred look is not suitable.

During the makeup trial, you should inform your artist if there are certain areas that you would like to change. I.e. if you feel that the eyeshadow color is too dark for your liking, ask to try for a lighter shade. It is important to inform the artist right there & then of your like and dislike, so that he/she can try a different product/technique to achieve your desired look. This will help you to decide whether the artist is versatile in delivering your ideal bridal look.

A Bridal Trial with Pixie Makeup sounds just as mentioned above. Our trial session is done at our relaxing makeup studio, with proper ligthing, chill out music and a lounge area for your family or friends to hang out while you get your trial done.

Want to look your best on your wedding day? Contact us to find out more.

General Do’s & Don’ts on Bridal Makeover

After saying ‘I Do’, the next thing that comes to mind for most ladies would be, which makeup artist should I hire? What kind of look do I want for my bridal makeup? Should I go Nude Look or Glam? Should I keep my hair long, perm it or straighten it?

Today our founder, Veron shares her view point on the General Do’s and Don’ts when it comes to Bridal Makeup to help you get started.

Do’s

  • Take time to discover your personal beauty style prior to your big day, i.e. sweet & innocent, rustic/down to earth, chic, red carpet etc
  • Look for pictures of makeup/hairdo as a reference point for your overall image. What is that you like? Is it the lipstick color? The eyeliner style? The way the hair is pinned/curl?
  • Engage a makeup artist that truly understands your style and are able to bring out your inner beauty. Think Individuality.
  • Take time to go through a makeup artist’s portfolio. A good makeup portfolio are ones that present a variety of personal looks, not just what is in trends.
  • Engage a makeup artist that are able to discuss the pros & cons of a certain look that you like base on your features
  • Have enough rest and do a weekly at home maintenance of facial scrub and hydrating mask in the weeks leading up to the wedding. This is to ensure there is no build up of dead skin, and the skin is well hydrated, thus reducing over secretion of sebum that causes oily skin. Beautiful makeup starts with healthy, beautiful skin.
  • Always consult with your makeup artist/hair stylist beforehand on things that might affect your bridal look, i.e trimming hair, eyebrow embroidery

Indian Wedding Makeover

Don’ts

  • Don’t expect a cookie cutter results when presenting a photo of makeup/hairdo style that you prefer as a reference. Due to different facial features, hairstyle and thickness, makeup products & shades, and the rendition of the stylist, results may vary
  • Avoid having your eyebrows or facial hair waxed 1 or 2 days before the wedding. This is to avoid having any skin discomfort that may appear on your wedding day after the waxing. There are also instances where waxing products used causes makeup products not being able to stay on the skin well. If you must, please wax it at least 1 week prior. Or try Threading instead.
  • Don’t trim your hair without consulting with your makeup artist/hairstylist. Certain hairdo that you have chosen for your wedding day might require certain hairstyles for your stylist to work with.
  • Avoid doing any kind of eyebrow embroidery/tattoo prior to your wedding. If the color comes out too dark or not the right shade/shape for the bridal look you are going for, it will make or break your look.
  • Don’t try out new beauty products within the 3 months prior to your wedding to avoid any unpleasant reaction if it is not suitable for you.

Fair Medium Dark Skin Makeup

What to expect from your Bridal Makeup trial

A Bridal Makeup Trial is a time where you discuss with your artist about your bridal look. Have a general idea of what you would want for your overall bridal image and bring along any magazine clippings or pictures found online as a reference point to get your ideas across clearly. However, you should also be open to suggestion.

It is best that you pick a time where you can comfortably discuss all options available, and probably try them out during this session. This is the best way to see if a style that you like are suitable for you and explore other options if is not. It will save both you and your artist’s time during the big day and avoid any stressful moments. Avoid having your trial session done where you will be attending a dinner or having your Registration of Marriage after the session. Because the look might not be suitable for the event you are having after the session. After all it is supposed to be for your wedding day! So let’s just focus on that. Sometimes killing 2 birds with 1 stones may not be practical.
Pink Bridal Makeup Look

2016 Bridal Trend Forecast

We are expected to see the minimalist look to continue. Focusing on clean, ethereal, glowy skin. With a hint of rosy/coral shades for the lips and cheeks.

For those who are more adventurous, you could try a dark lips. Choosing the right color is key so that it complements you and not overly gothic. A Vintage English Rose look is a sweeter approach for a dark lip.

From Plain Jane to Gothic Chick. Which Makeup Style Do You Fancy?

Recently Pixie Makeup teams up with Futagoza Studio for a photoshoot. This photoshoot is to test out some ideas the photographers had and also for us to let our hands and mind go wild! haha… well at least we can do any style that we fancy as long as it suits the concept 🙂

Our model Barbara Justi, has the fresh, young, teenage girl face, with beautiful double eyelid and deep set eyes. She is also bubbly and has a sweet smile. We started off with a clean, minimal makeup look to suit the photographers’ 1st concept, casual lifestyle kinda shots.

Photoshoot makeup

Then we moved on to something more sultry and sweet look. A light Taupe shade was blended just below her brow bones and a medium brown over her creases and outer corner of her eyes. Then followed by shimmery Rose Gold shade applied over her eyelids to open up her eyes and bring out its beauty. Black gel eyeliner drawn along her lash lines and a chocolate brown eyeliner pencil smudged on the lower outer corner of her eyes, completed the sultry eyes look. You can easily achieve this look with Sleek’s I-Divine Oh So Special eyeshadow palette 😉

To give her sultry look a hint of sweetness, our makeup artist, Veron custom mixed 2 lipstick with shades of Passion Fruit and Dragon Fruit together for a pink lips that brings out Barbara’s charm.

Dinner Makeup

For the rest of the shots, we did minor changes to her look, i.e. lips, hair, that instantly gave her different vibes.

If you feel like channeling Gothic Chick, why not try a dark lips, i.e dark wine shade?

Gothic Lips

Feeling sexy? Red lips will never go wrong! How about pairing it with big hair? 😀

Well, we will leave you with some other shots and edit the photographers got during the shoot 🙂 At the same time why not think about what kinda makeup look or vibes you want to channel for you next makeover?
